The piloting of summer season’s six week forecasts has reached the halfway. A great number of test users have already signed up and joined the project. Summer’s six week forecasts are available until the end of August.

The number of eager piloters has positively surprised the CLIPS team! Test users have joined in at a steady pace and the feedback received has been both helpful and encouraging. At the moment the six week forecasts have over 1000 test users.

So far the summer has been fairly cold in Finland. Also the amount of thunderstorms and lightning has stayed small. Expectionally few lightnings have been observed in Finland – only slightly over 6000 in total. Also according to the forecasts the weather hasn’t favored beach activities or thunderstorms and also the growing season is far behind the average.

During the summer season the following six week forecasts are tested:

  • beach weather outlook
  • sport weather outlook
  • thunderstorm outlook
  • probability of a sultry heat spell
  • development of the growing season

Piloting continues also after summer

Piloting phase of CLIPS project’s six week forecasts continues for a year. Piloting is divided into four periods based on the seasons: summer, autumn, winter and spring. The available six week forecasts vary between the seasons.

CLIPS team is already preparing for the autumn season. More information on the six week forecasts tested during the autumn season is revealed in August.
