Researchers of the CLIPS project visited the annual EMS conference (European Conference for Applied Meteorology and Climatology) that took place in Dublin, Ireland.
The piloting of the six week forecasts started only in June and there is much more to come. Still, in the conference we presented the first results of the summer season and findings from the last spring’s survey. The oral presentations covered a general introduction to the CLIPS project and some examples of how we have activated and engaged the public to co-design and develop climate services with us. The poster demonstrated the summer’s six week forecast products and the very first verification results. Fellow researchers in the conference were also invited to share their ideas of possible six week forecasts.
The experimental nature of the project and targeting the general public were among the things that seemed to make the project interesting for other conference participants. In other projects presented in the conference the focus was mainly on developing climate services together with some specific sector or sectors, for example with energy companies and providers or agricultural sector. Mapping the user needs and preferences and co-creation with the end-users seemed to be key concepts in many of the European climate service development projects.
