CLIPS team member, research scientist Terhi Laurila was working for a month at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) in Reading, England. During her visit, Laurila was focusing specially on developing windstorm and thunderstorm weekly forecasts. In CLIPS project, weather prediction data from ECMWF is used so the easiest way to learn the data processing is to be on the spot.
“People at ECMWF were really helpful, and in a month I had time to meet experts from many different fields and got a lot of tips for developing the CLIPS products”, Laurila says happily.
CLIPS 6-week forecasts are totally novel weather forecast products and also people at ECMWF are waiting with interest in the outcomes from the project.
